Gloeocapsa Magma

This bacteria has a specific name, and that is gloeocapsa magma. It is classified as a cyanobacteria and has been around for some time. The bacteria live in small groups of algae spores, which is basically what the greenish-gray streaks you see on a roof form from. Roofers and potential home buyers often use those streaks to estimate how old a roof is. The more streaks you see, the older the roof is. This bacteria can also raise your electric bill by making your roof less reflective and darker in color, therefore turning the temperature on the inside of your home hotter.

Protect Your Home

Regular roof cleaning is the least costly method of protecting your home from this algae-like bacteria.
